Nearly all of my posts have relied on handful of data tables. From these same data tables, I have created a (growing) number of dashboards that I think are helpful for the curious to use to slice & dice and answer questions you may have about the state of things. This post is a shameless promotion of that dashboard. Would love for others to find value in it. Also, playing around with these dashboards might lead to new & interesting questions that can be explored. Feel free to leave suggestions in the comments.
T Coddington’s COVID Dashboards
Data Sources:
Dashboards Included:
Key Metrics over Time: Decide to show Cases, Deaths, or Hospitalizations for entire US, specific states, specific counties for a specified date range
Key Metrics by Latitude: Very similar to the 1st dashboard, except the user can look at data by 1 degree increments of latitude. Chart at bottom can be shown by latitude or by a North/South distinction (defined as above/below 37th parallel). This was inspired from tweets by @Ray_J__ ** Updated, you can now choose to display time series of metric/100K or as a % of total. The last is a neat way of showing shifts seasonally between latitudes or North/South.
Year over Year: At National, Region, State, or County level, we can see a Year over Year comparison of Cases, Deaths and Hospitalizations.
Key Metrics Vax by County: Viewed from US level, Regional level, or State level. Scatter plot (each circle is a County) of Vaccination Rate vs. Key Metric. User choose which age group for vaccination (65+, 18+, or 12+), which Metric (Cases, Hospitalizations, Deaths, CFR) and Date Range. Filters available for population of County, and Completeness of their vaccination reporting.
CFR over Time: Viewed from US level, Region level, State level, or County level (all items on right are clickable as filters). CFR, cases and deaths are plotted over time. CFR is calculated as Next 4 Weeks of Deaths divided by Previous 4 Weeks of Cases.
County Vax Time Series: This one is meant to be viewed at a single county level. After filtering down to a single county, we can see cases, deaths, and vaccination rates of adults and seniors plotted over time.
Trending Cases: At the County level, looking at case growth of last week vs. previous week. Filters for county population and growth rate. State level summary in upper right.
Last Week: Simply looking at State level Cases, Hospitalizations, and Deaths for most recent week of data.
*** 11-04-21 Published a separate dashboard supporting my post on ED Visits. Will likely bring this into the main dashboard above in the future, but for now it’s available as it’s own things.
*** 11-15-21 Published a dashboard for the UK Surveillance Reports data, discussed in this post
**** Published in May was a dashboard for comparing across US States by age, etc:
*** Update 08/08/22. It would appear reporting of cases and deaths from many states is becoming less frequent and/or stopping completely. If you see a series of 0’s for a county (of any reasonable size) or state, it is likely due to the numbers not being updated to the CDC.
